Major General Iyad Barakat Meets with the New Head of the Canadian Security Mission
Ramallah – July 30, 2026 Major General Iyad Barakat, Commander of the Customs Police, met today, Thursday, at the agency's headquarters in Ramallah, with a delegation from the Canadian Security Mission. The meeting marked the conclusion of the mission's term, headed by Brigadier General Jason Lengler, and the welcoming of its new head, Brigadier General Sonny Hatton.
Major General Barakat welcomed Brigadier General Sonny Hatton, wishing him success in his duties and emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the Customs Police and the Canadian Security Mission, which will contribute to strengthening the agency's capabilities and improving its performance.
Major General Barakat also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Brigadier General Jason Lengler, commending his efforts during his tenure as head of the mission and the support he provided, which contributed to the implementation of numerous programs aimed at capacity building and institutional development. During the meeting, Major General Barakat reviewed the most prominent challenges and difficulties facing the Customs Enforcement Authority under the current exceptional circumstances, and the obstacles they impose that affect the execution of field duties. He emphasized the importance of continued support and cooperation to enhance the Authority's ability to perform its tasks in protecting the national economy and enforcing the law.
At the conclusion of the meeting, commemorative plaques were exchanged between the two sides in appreciation of the cooperation and partnership efforts between the Customs Enforcement Authority and the Canadian security mission.
