Chaired by the Prime Minister: Customs Police Participate in Meeting to Enhance Market Oversight and Consumer Protection

 

Ramallah - April 6, 2026 Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa chaired a meeting in Ramallah and Al-Bireh to discuss enhancing market oversight, price control, and consumer protection. Government and regulatory bodies participated, including Colonel Lotfi Nasser, Director of the Anti-Smuggling and Inspection Department of the Customs Police.

The meeting emphasized the need to intensify monitoring efforts, combat manipulation and smuggling, and ensure the availability of a strategic reserve of essential goods.

In a related context, and chaired by Minister of National Economy Mohammad Al-Amour, representatives from the public and private sectors participated in another meeting dedicated to enhancing preparedness. It was agreed to form specialized sectoral committees to thoroughly study the costs of production inputs and the impact of rising global fuel prices on them. This aims to contribute to achieving a balance between price stability and ensuring the continued operation of producers and suppliers. The participants affirmed that current stocks of essential goods range from three to six months, providing an acceptable level of food security. They emphasized the need to increase these stocks in anticipation of any developments or changes that may arise as a result of the ongoing war.

The participants stressed the private sector's commitment to maintaining stable prices and ensuring the availability of goods in sufficient quantities. They also agreed to form committees to review production costs and enhance food security.
